Mongibello, the Highest Active Volcano in Europe

Height 3350 meters (11.000 ft) above the sea level, base perimeter 150 km (93 mls), surface 1250 sq kms (483 sq mls), 4 active summit craters and about 300 extinct side crates scattered all over the surface: this is Etna by numbers. UNESCO heritage since 2013, Etna is also called Mongibello or "a muntagna" (the mountain): the highest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. Nevertheless visiting Etna is still very safe: the frequent volcanic activity is not explosive and the eruptions, largely predicted by the vulcanologists, represent a further reason for visiting it. Amazing landscapes with strong contrast of colours: luxuriant green vegetation, bushes, forests and black lava flows and craters to remind we are on an active volcano. Pretty villages with typical houses and old buildings in black lava stones and products of excellence: oranges, lemons, honey, olive oil, grapes, pistachios, chestnuts, hazelnuts, apples, cherries and ... typical Etna DOC wines, food and pastries. Once you are in Sicily you can't miss a complete excursion to Etna!
